What to Remember in Building Outdoor Fireplaces
Posted on Wednesday Mar 10, 2010 Under BrilliantSpending time outdoors is a great way to bond with the entire family, and outdoor fireplaces allows you to enjoy barbecues, pool parties, and other outdoor activities with the comforting warmth of a fire. However, building one is not just based on your whim or sudden urge to have it in your yard. A lot of municipalities have a set of rules that you should follow if you want to have a fireplace outside your home.
Once you are allowed to build one, find a safe place to construct it. It should not be near any existing structures. Make sure that there are no power cables or low lying tree branches over your chosen location. Make a careful, thorough, and detailed search of the area. All plants and trees should at least be six feet away from the center of the fireplace. The area should also be free of grasses, shrubs, or flowers.
Your family’s safety is of the utmost importance and it would be best to think of ways to enclose the area surrounding the fireplace especially if you have small children. Fireproof materials such as stone or fireproof brick are highly recommended to prevent accidents and sudden fires.
When built on the right location with all the safety precautions, an outdoor fireplace can give not only an aesthetic value to your house’s exterior, but also provide service and enjoyment to your entire family.
